UFC Middleweight challenger Yoel Romero says that him and his team have a plant to knockout Israel Adesanya, when the champion makes “one mistake”.
Yoel Romero is set to take on Israel Adesanya for the UFC Middleweight title in the main event of UFC 248. Romero, who has lost in his last 2 Octagon appearances was given the title shot after Paulo Costa got injured. Despite the 2-fight skid, the Cuban is confident that he actually won his last 2 outings against Costa and Robert Whittaker. Obviously, the judges did not see it that way, so this time around, the Cuban plans to finish the contest by knocking Adesanya out.
“Of course I’ve got to finish. I don’t want to go too crazy hard, but I need to finish the fight,” Romero said in the interview. “Me and my team have the plan to knock him out.”
For asked for Romero’s prediction, he says the finish can happen in any round. Adesanya just needs to make 1 mistake and the fight will be over.
“When he makes the little one mistake, boom,” he said in regards to ending the fight.
Romero clearly possess a lot of knockout power, as seen in his wins over Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman, among others. In his recent outings in the Octagon he has scored knockdowns against both, Whittaker and Costa. The questions remains whether he will be able to do that to Adesanya too.
Israel Adesanya will enter the contest on Saturday with a perfect record of 18-0, with 7 wins inside the Octagon. This will be the young champions 1st UFC Middleweight title defense and it will be interesting to see if he able to avoid the power shots of Romero and get his hand raised at the end.
