Weili Zhang put her belt on the line for her 1st-title defense against former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248.
Zhang (20-1 MMA) won the UFC women’s strawweight title last summer after beating former champion Jessica Andrade. The win made Zhang the first ever Chinese UFC champion.
Meanwhile, Jedrzejczyk (16-3 MMA) entered the contest with a unanimous decision win against Michelle Waterson under her belt. The win set Jedrzejczyk back on her winning ways, after having lost to Valentina Shevchenko in a UFC women’s flyweight title fight previously.
Last night’s title fight between the two ladies proved to be one of the most spectacular displays of heart, skill and dedication ever witnessed in the sport of MMA. It can easily be considered as Fight of the Year so far, with both fighters putting on a true championship calibre display.
