Tony Ferguson is scheduled to challenge the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for his title at UFC 249 on April 18, 2020.
The pair have been previously booked to fight each other 4-times in the past, with the bout falling through each time. Both fighters have been forced to withdraw from the fight twice, due to various health complications.
Now, the growing concerns over the outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus have forced the UFC to cancel their next 3 events. UFC 249 is set to take place on April 18 in New York, where a ban on large events has recently been put in place. This has left the fans worried about the status of UFC 249, although UFC president Dana White and Nurmagomedov’s manager and friend, Ali Abdelaziz have assured us that the fight will happen on that date.
Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson has been criticized in the past for his unorthodox training methods, which many believe have contributed to the fighters injuries. The 36-year old clearly feels that his training methods work fine, as he recently showed off some of the exercises he has implemented into his training for the upcoming Nurmagomedov fight.
He posted the video on his Instagram, you can watch it below:
In the video, Ferguson can be seen training in jeans and performing various wrestling attacks.
Undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke with ESPN about the video and he wasn’t too impressed, questioning his next opponent’s choice of training attire:
“Training with belt and jeans?” Nurmagomedov said.
At this time, the fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson is still set to go ahead as planned, although UFC president Dana White has said that it might be moved to a new location. This could possibly mean somewhere outside of the United States.
