Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk challenged Weili Zhang for her title at UFC 248.
The fight was an action-packed battle right from the opening bell through to the end of the last round. Both fighters threw nearly 800 strikes in the 25-minute co-main event at UFC 248. The fight is now regarded as the greatest fight in women’s MMA history and UFC president Dana White called it “one of the best fights” he has ever seen.
Both fighters were bruised and battered at the end of the fight, but it was Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who was on the receiving end of one of the most gruesome injuries in MMA.
She suffered a hematoma on her forehead in the 3rd round, which kept swelling up larger as the bout went on.
Her team provided a health update on their fighter shortly after the bout, revealing that Jedrzejczyk will be fine. Jedrzejczyk has since had to get a surgery to help her deal with the injuries.
She recently posted a video on her Instagram, showing the extent of her injuries 1 week after the fight. Watch it below:
“Hello guys, made it home, I am in Poland and it’s almost 2am. Happy to be back home, I took a long shower and unpacked some stuff. Now I’m having a small home spa, it’s a mud mask and of course I am still having so many bruises on my face, on my chest. Swelling went down and I am feeling better so we good.”
The visual damage is very prominent, but it’s more important to know that she is on her way to recovering from her 5-round war against Weili Zhang. It will most likely take some time, before the former champion is back to being fully healed and we want to wish her a speedy recovery.
Following the fight, Jedrzejczyk has expressed that she would be interested in a potential rematch against Zhang in the future.
