UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya puts his title on the line against Yoel Romero at UFC 248 on March 7, 2020 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight card originally consisted of 12 bouts, but recent reports state that one of those bouts has been cancelled.
UFC Women’s Strawweight fighter Polyana Viana was expected to face Emily Whitmire at tonight’s event. Whitmire missed weight by 2.5lbs, forcing the bout to be changed to a catchweight contest.
It has now been revealed that Whitmire had to be taken to the hospital. The fight against Viana has since been cancelled completely.
Polyana Viana made the announcement that she would no longer be competing on this card on her Twitter.
“I just heard that Emily is out of the fight with me today. I also heard she had to be taken to the ER. I hope she is alright and I wish from the bottom of my heart that she recovers from whatever it is that she is suffering from.”
The bout was supposed to be the featured fight on the UFC 248 early prelims on ESPN+. The bout featuring Giga Chikadze and Jamall Emmers will now most likely get bumped up to take that spot.
UFC 248 is headlined and co-headlined by 2 title fights. The co-main event will see the reigning UFC Women’s Strawweight champion Weili Zhang defend her title for the 1st time against the former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Jedrzejczyk had been trash talking and taunting the Chinese champion throughout the entire build up, recently calling her “cocky” and “arrogant”.
The main event will feature the eagerly awaited UFC Middleweight Championship fight between dangerous challenger Yoel Romero and undefeated champion Israel Adesanya.
