Tito Ortiz, who won his last contest over Alberto Del Rio in his Combate Americas debut has had it overturned to a no-decision by the Texas Commission.
The two men battled it out back on Dec. 7, 2019 at Combate Americas 51 where Ortiz was making his promotional debut. To raise the stakes of this bout, Ortiz put up his UFC belt on the line, while Del Rio put up his WWE Heavyweight championship belt. The contest ended with Ortiz dominating and quickly locking in a rear-naked choke in the very 1st-round.
Now, almost 3 months down the line, the Texas commission has overturned the result to a no-contest. News of this was first reported by MMA Junkie.
The commission gave a statement to MMA Fighting on the decision, but no reasons were provided as to why the win was overturned.
“The results of the fight were changed pending further investigation,” TDLR spokesperson Tela Mange said in an email.
The commission spokesperson stated that they cannot ‘elaborate’ as to why it was overturned. Results overturned to a no-contest are usually due to drug test failures, but the reason remains unknown at this time.
Combate Americas 51 was the 1st bout of a multi-fight deal for Tito Ortiz. It was also his 1st bout since he stopped Chuck Liddell in their trilogy scrap back in November of 2018. Prior to that, he submitted Chael Sonnen at Bellator 170.
Meanwhile, Alberto Del Rio is now 9-5-(1) in MMA. The bout served as his 1st fight in MMA since February of 2010 where he suffered a knockout loss.
When the Texas commission will release an official statement on why the decision was overturned is unknown at this point. The investigation is currently ongoing, but once news of that breaks we will cover it.
