A trilogy fight between two MMA and Light-Heavyweight legends, Shogun Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been scheduled for UFC 250.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported on Twitter the UFC has scheduled the trilogy fight between the PRIDE veterans for UFC 250, which takes place on May 9, 2020 at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil. UFC president Dana White has confirmed that the bout is official. The main event of the card sees UFC Bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo taking on former Featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo.
“Breaking: Shogun ( @ShogunRua ) vs. Lil Nog ( @Minotauromma ) 3 booked to UFC 250 on May 9 in São Paulo, Brazil, per UFC president Dana White ( @danawhite ). The trilogy will take place 15 years after the original.”
Both, Shogun and Lil Nog are two of the most legendary Light-Heavyweights in the history of MMA. Seems like they have been around forever and in the year 2020, both men are finally nearing the end of their long and illustrious careers.
Shogun (26-11-1) is coming off of a draw against Scottish Light-Heavyweight Paul Craig, but prior to this fight he had been victorious in 4 of his last 5 fights. Shogun Rua is the former UFC Light-Heavyweight champion and a former PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix champion. Now 38, Shogun is nearing the end of his professional MMA career, but obviously he would like to go out on a win.
Nogueira (23-9) suffered a brutal knockout loss to Ryan Spann in his last outing and has lost 4 of his last 6 fights. Now 43, it’s quite a feat that Nogueira is still fighting at the highest level of the sport of MMA. Just like Shogun, he would love to go out on top with a win and this fight gives both men the opportunity to fight against a fellow legend.
As mentioned earlier, this is going to be the third fight between Shogun and Lil Nog. Shogun was victorious in the pair’s first scrap wayback at Pride Critical Countdown in 2005. He also won the rematch at UFC 190 in August, 2015. Both of these wins came by decision, with the fight at UFC 190 winning each man a $50,000 “Fight of the Night.” bonus for “Fight of the Night.”
