UFC have now become one of the lastest sports organisations to be disrupted by the growing concerns over the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
The infamous COVID-19 coronavirus has reached almost every corner of the globe and has now been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO). There are growing concerns over the spread of the virus at events with large crowds in attendance, forcing many sporting events from around the world to be cancelled or postponed.
MMA is no exception. The recent UFC Brasilia event was converted to a closed-door event last-minute. ONE Championship also made the decision to convert some of their events into closed-door events and postpone others.
Now, the UFC have had go a step further and cancel 3 of their upcoming events. The closest event was UFC London, which was scheduled to take place this weekend in London, United Kingdom. Other events that have been cancelled are UFC Portland and UFC Columbus.
UFC research analyst Michael Carroll revealed the cancellations in a leaked email, allegedly sent by UFC president Dana White to all company employees.
Understandably, a lot of the fighters that were scheduled to fight on those cards are concerned. See how they reacted to the news below:
The reactions are mixed, but at least all fighters agree that it is better to be safe than sorry.
