Brian Ortega was recently involved in an incident in the crowd at UFC 248, involving Chan Sung Jung and his friend Jay Park.
The alleged incident took place during last weekend’s UFC 248 event. UFC featherweight Brian Ortega allegedly confronted Chan Sung Jung’s friend Jay Park, slapping him across the face. There is footage of the moment the incident happened and of Brian Ortega being escorted out of the arena afterwards. It has also been reported that a police report has been filed and they are now dealing with the incident.
Chan Sung Jung, also known as “The Korean Zombie” took to this Instagram following the incident detailing his side of the story. Brian Ortega has also done the same, but his post has since been deleted.
Now, it appears that more people are getting involved and taking sides. Gracie jiu-jitsu legend Rener Gracie recently gave his opinion on the situation on Ortega’s Instagram post, seemingly taking his side. The post has since been deleted, but “The Korean Zombie” got a hold of a screenshot showing Gracie’s comment and had the following to say:
“Slapping a translator makes you a bully. Slapping an instigator makes you BULLYPROOF.” Gracie had commented.
Chan Sung Jung responded to the comment with the following message:
“Rener Gracie I cannot believe you wrote this! Jay Park never asked me to write anything and get myself involved in this situation. How is it even acceptable that a 2nd place ranked fighter resorted to using violence towards a civilian?
I have been practicing my Jiu Jitsu while watching your YouTube videos. I even attended your seminar when you were in Korea. I am just ashamed and embarrassed. I also want to address that I am upset at ‘Gracie Jiu Jitsu’ as much as that moment when Ortega slapped Jay Park. Is it okay for someone to solve a problem physically before attempting to fix it verbally? Do you guys tell your students that it’s okay to do that at Gracie Jiu Jitsu? I truly thought that you would scold Ortega for his childish behavior because he should have never hit a civilian. I am deeply disappointed in you.” he continued.
Brian Ortega was previously scheduled to fight Chan Sung Jung at UFC Busan, but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an injury. Frankie Edgar stepped in Ortega’s place and fought “The Korean Zombie” in the main event, losing to him via TKO in the 1st-round.
