Professional Fighters League (PFL) have signed new fighters for their 2020 season, including UFC veterans Tom Lawlor and Cezar Ferreira.
PFL is a unique MMA promotion that uses a Regular Season, Playoffs and Championship format for it’s event. For their upcoming 2020 season they vowed to add a number of well-known fighters to their roster. The promotion kept their promise, when it announced the signing of Rory MacDonald. They also recently announced signing 10 new free agents, some of which included well known UFC veterans and the brother of UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
The promotion clearly isn’t done yet and have just announced signing more fighters to their roster for their upcoming 3rd-season.
ESPN recently reported that Tom Lawlor, who is a UFC veteran with 11 fights under their banner, has signed with PFL. He provided ESPN with the following statement:
“I have been given the golden lottery ticket to compete in this year’s PFL in the light heavyweight division for $1 million. I am here to tell you it is my absolute goal, it is my destiny, to take home that money, and it’s gonna happen at the end of 2020,”
Lawlor’s overall MMA record is 10-7 with 1 no-contest and last compete at the Golden Boy MMA event in November, 2018, where he lost to Deron Winn via unanimous decision. Lawlor was a member of The Ultimate Fighter season 8 cast and competed in the Octagon between 2008 and 2016. During that time he accumulated a record of 6-5 in the UFC. Since leaving the promotion in 2016, Lawlor has competed for various professional wrestling organizations.
MMA Fighting later announced that Cezar Ferreira has also signed with PFL for their upcoming 2020 season.
Ferreira, who’s overall MMA record is 13-8 won The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, back in 2012 and put together a record of 9-6 in the UFC. After losing back-to-back decisions to Ian Heinisch and Marvin Vettori, he was let go from the UFC.
Both, Lawlor and Ferreira couldn’t pass up the opportunity to win the $1 million (£800k) prize money in PFL. They are both going to be competing in the same division, so it’s possible that Lawlor and Ferreira could face each other in the tournament.
