UFC Middleweight contender Paulo Costa says that he be in attendance for Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero at UFC 248.
Israel Adesanya will be looking to defend his Middleweight title against Yoel Romer in the main event of UFC 248. Originally, Adesanya was supposed to take on Paulo Costa, but the Brazilian powerhouse injured his bicep, which forced him to be out for a few months. This paved the way for Romero to get the title shot instead.
Paulo Costa says that he knows he will be fighting the winner, but he’s interested in seeing if Adesanya is be able to beat Romero just as he did in their previous fight.
“I’ll be there to see if Adesanya can beat Romero like I did,” Costa told MMA Fighting. “Everybody wants to see that, if he can beat Romero or not. I believe Adesanya himself feels he has to prove he can beat Romero, too, so I’ll be there watching.”
The rivalry between Costa and Adesanya has been brewing for a while. Costa recently said that he will “really kill” Adesanya, referring to him as “dirty kiwi”. Adesanya has been skeptical of the Brazilian’s injury, speculating that it may be due to steroid use and calling him a juice monkey.
It’s pretty clear that the two don’t like each other and a fight between them would be fireworks and do big numbers. First, Adesanya will need to get through Romero, which Costa doesn’t know if he can. That is why he plans to attend the fight at UFC 248.
“I’ll be able to train everything,” Costa said. “I’ll be there, front row, at UFC 248. Let’s see who’s next.”
Paulo Costa beat Yoel Romero at UFC 241 by unanimous decision, improving his record to 13-0. He also has notable wins over Uriah Hall and Johnny Hendricks among others.
