It wasn’t that long ago since the prospect of seeing Michael Bisping vs. Yoel Romero was close to coming to fruition. At the time, Bisping was the reigning UFC Middleweight champion, while Romero was a top contender.
During that time, the pair were involved in quite a bit of back-and-forth trash talk. The most famous lines were from Romero, although some people would hardly call it trash talk.
Yoel Romero famously yelled “I love you, Mike,” to Bisping during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.
In the end, Michael Bisping and Yoel Romero never ended up meeting in the Octagon. Bisping lost his title to Georges St-Pierre, who then relinquished the title. Following his loss to GSP, Bisping looked to make a quick turnaround against Kelvin Gastelum, but came up short and lost the bout via 1st-round knockout.
Romero went against Robert Whittaker for the interim title, losing a hard-fought decision twice.
Today, Michael Bisping is retired. Yoel Romero, one the other hand will be looking to finally capture the UFC middleweight title from current champion Israel Adesanya.
Speaking at the end of last weekend’s UFC Norfolk broadcast, the former champion finally admitted that he loves Romero too — despite their former rivalry.
“I love you too, boy,” Bisping said, while doing his best Yoel Romero impression.
Shortly after this footage was posted on social media, Bisping followed up with a comment, clarifying that he is, indeed, a “big fan” of Romero — now that he’s retired.
“I’m a big fan and really enjoy him now I’m retired.” – Michael Bisping on Twitter.
