Boxing analyst Max Kellerman has said that he considers UFC Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic to be the baddest man on the planet, not Tyson Fury.
Following Tyson Fury’s dominant performance in last weekend’s rematch against rival Deontay Wilder that ended with a 7th-round TKO, many fans now consider Fury to be the baddest man on the planet. Max Kellerman disagrees with this assessment. Some UFC Heavyweights, including Stipe Miocic himself, also disagree and have called out Tyson Fury.
Commentating on the Wilder vs. Fury 2 broadcast, Kellerman said that in his opinion, the baddest man on the planet is whoever the UFC heavyweight champion. Since the UFC Heavyweight title is currently held by Stipe Miocic, he is the baddest man on the planet right now in Kellerman’s eyes (via Luke Thomas).
“Max Kellerman said on the #WilderFury2 broadcast no matter who wins here, the baddest man on the planet is whoever the UFC champion is because that’s a closer approximation of a real fight. But by all means, let’s keep serving up Stephen A. Smith’s vapid takes on UFC shows.”
For many, this was surprising to hear coming from Max Kellerman, considering he is a boxing analyst first and foremost, but he does make a good point. As dangerous as boxers like Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are with their punching ability, Miocic is a well-rounded fighter with good wrestling to go along with boxing skills. Like Kellerman says, an MMA bout is closer to a ‘real fight’ than a boxing match because of the extended ruleset, which includes many grappling techniques.
With that being said, Kellerman’s comments are still controversial for so many people out there who would pick Fury over Miocic in a fight, especially if it’s a boxing match. Under the ruleset of MMA, it would be hard to pick Fury to beat Miocic because of the grappling element, but as far as pure boxing goes, Fury is obviously the superior boxer.
