Another member of the Nurmagomedov dynasty has made their way to the UFC roster, and it’s Umar Nurmagomedov.
He is the younger cousin of the current undefeated UFC Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Just like his older cousin, Umar joins the promotion with an undefeated record in his professional mixed martial arts career of 12 win and no losses.
“The Eagle” had hinted that his younger cousin would sign with the UFC back on February 1 on his official website. It has now been confirmed by the official UFC Russia Instagram account, check it out below.
The young Dagestani began his professional MMA career back in 2016, fighting for one of the longest existing Russian MMA promotions, Fight Nights Global.
Now Umar Nurmagomedov gets the chance to compete on biggest stage in the world of MMA, following the footsteps of his older cousin with a perfect record. The young eagle has already previously fought for the US mixed martial arts promotion Professional Fighting League in 2018 and 2019. He is also the Gorilla Fighting Championship Bantamweight champion, a Russia-based promotion.
Umar Nurmagomedov is scheduled to appear at the Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, home of NBA team Brooklyn Nets, on April 18, on the UFC 249 card. The event will be headlined by his older cousin Khabib Nurmagomedov, who defends his belt against Tony Ferguson, in one of the most highly-anticipated bouts in MMA history.
It hasn’t been announced who the 24-year-old Dagestani fighter will be facing in his UFC debut, but some speculation of who his potential opponent might be points to Brian Kelleher.
