UFC Lightweight contender Justin Gaethje believes there is “no doubt about it” that Conor McGregor is ducking him.
Gaethje has been calling for a fight against Conor McGregor for a while now. He took verbal shots at McGregor for making his comeback against Donald Cerrone, seeing as ‘The Highlight’ had just knocked out ‘Cowboy.’ Since McGregor won his fight against Cerrone, the trash-talk has only gotten worse as Gaethje still calls for the fight but believes the Irishman is ducking him.
“No doubt at it,” Justin Gaethje replied to a fan on whether Conor McGregor is ducking him.
Even though Gaethje believes that McGregor is ducking him, the Irishman has said that Justin Gaethje is on his hit list and he “will get to him eventually.”
Justin Gaethje is currently on a 3-fight win streak. With knockouts over James Vick, Edson Barboza, and Donald Cerrone, they have all come in the 1st round. Prior to this winning streak, he suffered back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez, both by stoppage, in what was his first career losses. His current UFC record is 4-2 with another TKO win over Michael Johnson.
Meanwhile, Conor McGregor is fresh off a 40-second knockout finish over Cerrone at UFC 246. This was his first fight since October, 2018. In the fight prior, he fought Khabib Nurmagomedov for the belt, losing the fight by 4th-round submission. He has been actively campaigning for the rematch against the champion. Before that, he had the spectacle boxing fight against Floyd Mayweather and in his next most recent MMA fight he became the first ever simultaneous 2-division champion after knocking out Eddie Alvarez.
If the fight between McGregor and Gaethje happens, it would no doubt be a huge fight. McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh has said that they’d be interested in this fight, but they would want it to be at Welterweight. This fight would actually make sense as a number one contender fight, where the winner would fight the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov/Tony Ferguson later this year.
