UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje and welterweight Rafael dos Anjos both believe that Yoel Romero did enough to win against Israel Adesanya at UFC 248.
Israel Adesanya was able to defend his UFC middleweight title against Yoel Romero this past weekend at UFC 248. The champion edged out a close unanimous decision victory, with the judges scoring it 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46 for Adesanya. It was seen as somewhat of a lackluster performance from both fighters and many spectators thought that the decision was awarded to the wrong man.
Among them is Justin Gaethje and Rafael dos Anjos, who both think that Yoel Romero deserved to win on the judges scorecards. They expressed their views on Twitter after the main event bout at UFC 248.
“I had it 4-1 for @YoelRomeroMMA” Gaethje wrote.
“Not even Adesanya believe he won…I had Romero all the way!” dos Anjos stated.
According to the judges scorecard, Yoel Romero would have only needed to win 1 more round to take the belt from the champion. Regardless, this was the Cuban’s 3rd-straight loss in the UFC and Dana White has expressed his disappointment in Romero, stating that this his last chance at a UFC title shot.
Despite high profile fighters such as Justin Gaethje and Rafael dos Anjos believing that Yoel Romero did enough to win, it seems unlikely that we will be seeing him in another UFC middleweight title fight in the future, although Dana White is known for his “flexible” decisions, so this cannot be ruled out completely.
