UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal had a few things to say about his teammate and former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington.
The two train together at the American Top Top (ATT), where a “zero tolerance” policy regarding trash talking was recently implemented.
Despite training together at ATT, Masvidal and Covington have been taking digs at each other for quite some time now. ATT owner Dan Lambert has been forced to step in and try to keep peace between his fighters in the past. This week he has been forced to implement a “zero tolerance” trash talking policy between fighters of the gym.
Jorge Masvidal believes that he has found a loophole in that policy, suggesting that the rule can’t broken by him as he doesn’t consider Covington to be a “fighter”.
He had the following to say on his official Twitter account:
“F*ck coby. The most fragile most sensitive guy in ufc history. Can’t kick me out cause this rule was for fighters only. Not crotch sniffers that get their jaw broken by other crotch sniffers. @AmericanTopTeam we all know that dude is no fighter.”
Colby Covington has been exchanging words with a few of his teammates at the American Top Team, including Joanna Jędrzejczyk. She demanded an apology from Covington, before things could go back to normal between them.
Covington also talked bad about his other teammate Dustin Poirier, calling the former interim UFC lightweight champion a “lightweight washout”.
He also recently ripped into Masvidal and Jedrzejczyk, calling her his “side piece” among other things. Covington said suggested that Masvidal is overrated, calling him “Journeyman George” and “Street Judas”.
Colby Covington last competed inside the Octagon against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 in December, 2019. He lost to Usman via TKO in the 5th-round after suffering a broken jaw in the 3rd-round.
Meanwhile, Masvidal is on a 3-fight winning streak against notable fighters like Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz. Usman is expected to defend his UFC welterweight title for the 2nd-time against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 252.
