Former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk lost to Weili Zhang at UFC 248, failing to recapture her former title.
The action-packed 5 round fight in the co-main event at UFC 248 featuring Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Weili Zhang is being regarded as the greatest women’s MMA fight in history. UFC president Dana White praised it as “one of the best fights he has seen, period”.
Despite losing, Jedrzejczyk was able to show that she still belong in the elite of the division. She suffered a hematoma on her forehead in the 3rd round, which kept growing larger as the bout progressed. It was one of the most gruesome injuries in UFC history and left the fans worried.
In her post fight interview, Jedrzejczyk said that she could feel swelling getting worse. Her team later provided an update on their fighters health, confirming that she will be fine. Jedrzejczyk was the UFC women’s strawweight champion from 2015 to 2017, with 5 successful title defences under her belt. She lost the title to Rose Namajunas after being stopped by her via strikes at UFC 217.
