Heavy handed UFC Light-Heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz wants a 4-man tournament to determine the fighter most worthy of the LHW title.
Blachowicz is suggesting that he should get the next title shot against Jones, while implying that top contenders Dominick Reyes and Thiago Santos should fight each other to determine who will fight the winner of Jones vs. Blachowicz.
In an interview with MMAFighting.com, Blachowicz said:
“I can be the matchmaker right now if you want. I’ll fight Jon Jones for the title belt. Dominick Reyes can fight against Thiago Santos and who wins this fight can fight against me next for the title shot.”
The Polish Light-Heavyweight is not the first person to suggest a tournament, but it’s the first time one of the top contenders in the LHW division has publicly come out and supported it. If this tournament takes place, it would see Blachowicz being granted the title shot after his knockout victory over Corey Anderson at UFC Rio Rancho. This victory set his win streak to 3 straight fights. Overall, Blachowicz has won 7 of his last 8 fights.
A lot of fans are saying that Reyes vs. Santos fight makes a lot of sense, since both men are coming off of razor-thin losses to Jones, that many thought they won. Reyes just suffered a UD loss to Jones at UFC 247 that many felt he should have won, while Santos lost a SD to Jones last year at UFC 239.
With Blachowicz now being in the mix as a legitimate contender after his knockout victory over Anderson, it’s created a situation where Reyes and Santos may have to take another fight in order to secure another title shot against Jones.
