UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was able to defend his title against Yoel Romero at UFC 248 and believes he proved Romero isn’t “made of steel”.
Adesanya won a unanimous decision victory against Yoel Romero after 5-rounds of technical hesitation from both fighters. Many fans thought that the performance was lackluster and could be heard booing throughout the entire bout. It was a fairly slow paced contest, with only 6 strikes being landed in total, throughout the 1st round.
Prior to the event, Yoel Romero was touted for his powerful physique, with UFC President Dana White comparing the middleweight contender to a piece of concrete. He was referring to something Romero’s former opponent, Robert Whittaker had said about his foe following spending 10-round in the Octagon with him. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Whittaker said the following:
“This time, he felt like steel. I was punching and kicking him but it wasn’t doing any damage. He was walking forward through everything. It was weird.”
Following the event, Adesanya addressed the alleged rumour that Romero is made of “steel” He tweeted a gruesome photo of his work on Romero’s badly damaged leg, mocking the notion set by Dana White and Robert Whittaker.
“rOmERo iZ MadE oF STelL!”
Adesanya also used the time to remind fans that he left the contest with very little damage on him.
“Unscathed”
