UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo sent a message to Conor McGregor with a word of advice ahead of a potential shodown against Justin Gaethje.
Former UFC 2-division champion Conor McGregor returned to the Octagon with an impressive performance against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246 in January, 2020. McGregor stopped Cerrone via TKO in just 40-seconds inside the 1st-round. He was coming off of a 16-month lay off after losing to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October, 2018.
Following his win against Cerrone, McGregor vowed to treat the year as a “season” and fight at least 3 times before the end of 2020. McGregor’s next fight has not been announced yet.
His former opponent Nate Diaz took aim at McGregor on Twitter for saying that he would treat 2020 as a “season”, but is currently without an opponent. In a recent video posted by McGregor, it looks like he is potentially getting ready to announce his return soon:
UFC bantamweight Henry Cejudo had his own take on McGregor’s training video, advising the original “champ-champ” to work on his takedown defence, or be destroyed by Justin Gaethje:
“And that’s actually what the problem is! @TheNotoriousMMA you should be working your your takedown defense #Mctapper @Justin_Gaethje would destroy in round one! #pussycat”
Conor McGregor has been looking to get a rematch against Khabib Nurmagomedov ever since his original loss to the Dagestani back at UFC 229 in October, 2018. UFC president Dana White has said that if Nurmagomedov is able to get through Tony Ferguson in his next fight, he would fight McGregor next.
Justin Gaethje was not happy, when he heard that McGregor might leap over him for a title shot at lightweight. He said that if McGregor was given a title shot over Gaethje, he would “punch” Dana White “in the nose”.
Nurmagomedov has said multiple times that McGregor doesn’t “deserve” a rematch and that he has to fight the top contenders at lightweight first. His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who is also Henry Cejudo’s manager, has said that he would be willing to set up a rematch between McGregor and Nurmagomedov, if McGregor fought and won against Justin Gaethje first.
