Rising UFC Welterweight Geoff Neal is calling for a fight against Michael Chiesa with both men currently on wining streaks in the division.
When it comes to the age old question of what the best division in the UFC is, the debate is usually won by Lightweight. Recently though, the 170-pounders are starting to blaze their way into the top spot. From the Welterweight title contenders to throughout the top 15 and beyond, the division is as legitimate as they come.
Geoff Neal has been making some serious noise in the division and now that he is on the brink of breaking into the top 10, he’s wasting no time in calling for his next fight.
“Neal vs Chiesa, BOOK IT! @seanshelby @Mickmaynard2 @danawhite @ufc”
“5 fight win streak vs 3 fight win streak, both ranked! Perfect fight imo”
Geoff Neal is coming off the best performance of his professional career in his win over Mike Perry back at UFC 245. This victory reaffirmed the belief that many people had that he might be one of the top fighters in the division. Since he entered the UFC after his victorious display on Dana White’s Contender Series, Neal has put together 5 straight wins on his way to being currently ranked at No. 11.
Michael Chiesa has shaken things up since moving up to welterweight. He’s gone 3-0 since December, 2018 with a good resume of wins over Carlos Condit, Diego Sanchez and Rafael dos Anjos— his last fight taking place just a few weeks ago.
Since Chiesa is ranked at No. 7, he may not have too much interest in fighting someone lower down in the rankings. Especially since there are several fighters above him also waiting to be matched up.
A fight between these two men would certainly be a fun clash of styles. Both of them have been racking up wins under the radar and it seems as if nobody else in the top 15 really wants to fight right now.
