Heavy-handed UFC Heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou wants to fight the new WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury in boxing.
Tyson Fury has teased the fans in the past about a potential MMA bout with Ngannou. At the same time Ngannou has repeatedly discussed fighting in boxing, and now he’s interested in a boxing match against Fury.
“I’m interested in competing in the boxing match in general, but Fury and I have some little story together because he was first calling me out in MMA and everything,” Ngannou told MMAJunkie. “Basically, the man stands, after his fight yesterday as the best heavyweight. No argument about that – he stands as the best heavyweight. For someone looking to box, you definitely have to go through him to prove that you’re the best.”
Tyson Fury made his return to the squared circle on Saturday, when he stopped Deontay Wilder in the 7th round via TKO. Deontay Wilder is perhaps the only man in combat sports with punching power to rival Ngannou’s own. Following this victory, Fury won the WBC Heavyweight title and maintained his status as boxing’s lineal Heavyweight champion.
Meanwhile, Francis Ngannou, is scheduled to make his return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC Columbus, where he’ll take on rising Surinamese power puncher Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Ngannou admits that he is not impressed by Rozenstruik going into this fight. If Ngannou gets his hand raised in this fight, he might well be the next fighter in line for UFC Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
Francis Ngannou enters this fight with 3-straight wins, including a destructive 1st-round finishes of fellow contender Curtis Blaydes, and former champions Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.
