Fabian Edwards is set to go against Costello Van Steenis in the Bellator London co-main event in May 2020.
The English fighter and younger brother of UFC Welterweight contender Leon Edwards is one of Bellator’s rising stars. In his last bout back in November of 2019, he faced Londoner Mike Shipman in a highly anticipated grudge-match. The contest was close and it was probably the toughest fight of Edwards’ career, but in the end the he managed to bag himself a split decision win. Edwards has remained undefeated since making his professional MMA debut in 2017.
Now, the Middleweight prospect has set his sights on the Bellator MMA 185-pound title.
His upcoming opponent, the Dutch fighter, Van Steenis is trained by former UFC Middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi. The Dutch fighter is known for his explosive knockout power, and has put together 12 professional wins — including a stoppage win over Mike Shipman. Despite his resume, he suffered setback in his last contest against John Salter at Bellator 233. The 27-year old Dutch fighter lost via unanimous decision. He will undoubtedly be looking to bounce back and make a statement with a win over Fabian Edwards.
On the same Bellator London event, the former international rugby star James Haskell will also be making his professional MMA debut. The seasoned athlete announced his signing with Bellator last year, and has been working on his MMA skillset at London Shootfighters, the same gym as Michael “Venom” Page and Mike Shipman. As of yet, he is still waiting on getting an opponent.
Rising Irish star James Gallagher is scheduled to headline the event against UK-based Bantamweight Cal Ellenor. This bout has been postponed twice due to medical reasons. “The Strabanimal” was forced to withdraw from their main event scrap at Bellator Dublin earlier this month due to a back injury.
As a reminder, Bellator London takes place at the SSE Arena in Wembley, London on May 16.
