Two fighters have missed weight for UFC Norfolk, including title challenger Deiveson Figueiredo for his bout against Joseph Benavidez.
Benavidez and Figueiredo are scheduled to go against each other in the main event of UFC Norfolk, for the vacant UFC Flyweight title. At the weigh ins on Friday morning, Benavidez was easily able to make the weight, weighing in at 124.5lbs. However, this was not the case for Figueiredo. The Brazilian fighter stepped onto the scale at 127.5lbs, missing weight by 2.5lbs. Figueiredo was granted 1 hour to make the weight, but decided not to cut the extra weight per ESPN. He will now be forced to give up 30% of his purse to Benavidez. The fight is still on, but only Benavidez is eligible to win the vacant Flyweight strap.
“It’s done. Per UFC, Figueiredo won’t cut anymore. Forfeits 30 percent of his purse to Benavidez. Title fight only for Benavidez.”
As mentioned earlier, the other fighter to miss weight was Featherweight Grant Dawson. He got on the scales at 149.5lbs for his Featherweight scrap against Derrick Minner, who made the weight at 145.5lbs. With just an extra hour being granted to him to cut 3.5lbs to make the non-title Featherweight limit of 146lbs, it doesn’t seem likely that Dawson will make the weight. His opponent Minner, had actually taken the fight on short notice, yet he’s the one who made the weight, while Dawson didn’t.
