UFC middleweight contender Darren Till has given his opinion on the main event at UFC 248 featuring Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero, calling it “stale”.
Israel Adesanya put his UFC middleweight title on the line against Yoel Romero in the main event UFC 248 last weekend. Going into the bout there was a lot of expectation from the fans for this to be an action packed contest. It turned out to be a slow paced 5-round decision victory for Adesanya and Darren Till wasn’t impressed.
Being one of the top contenders at middleweight, Darren Till obviously took an interest in last weekend’s headliner at UFC 248. The British fighter was left unimpressed by the slow paced contest, which had less than 90 combined strikes thrown by Adesanya and Romero at the end of the 25-minute bout.
Darren Till made a recent appearance on the Eurobash podcast by MMA Fighting, giving his thoughts on the infamous title fight calling it “stale”:
“I just think it was stale. Yoel looked dead heavy, he didn’t look as explosive. Izzy was sort of running away and stuff like that, but [you] can always give them [a break] for one fight, you give them a bypass. That’s it really, there’s not a lot to comment on because there wasn’t a lot happening.” Till said.
Till might have not been impressed by the main event at UFC 248, but the co-main event is a completely different story. UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang defended her belt in a close split-decision victory over the former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. It was a high paced, action packed 25-minute battle, that’s now being called the greatest women’s fight in MMA history. UFC president Dana White even said that it’s one of the best fights he has ever seen, period. It’s safe to say that Darren Till was also impressed by the fight, calling on Dana White to open his pockets:
“Give them two girls five million dollars each,” Till said. “Because they deserve it.”
