UFC president Dana White has come out and said that Dominick Reyes does deserve a rematch against UFC Light-Heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Dominick Reyes took on Jon Jones in a tough 25 minute main event fight at UFC 247. Many MMA fans and media scored the bout in favor of Reyes, but the judges didn’t see it that way and awarded Jones a unanimous decision victory. This one was definitely the most controversial title fight decision in recent memory. Straight after the decision was announced, fans seen Reyes as the real winner and called for a rematch.
Since UFC 247, a new contender has emerged in the LHW division and his name is Jan Blachowicz. He is fresh off a 1st-round knockout over Corey Anderson at UFC Rio Rancho, riding a 3-fight winning streak with other wins over Luke Rockhold and Jacare Souza. Jon Jones was actually in attendance for the Corey Anderson bout and appeared to be more interested in that fight than a rematch against Reyes. Blachowicz recently came out with a suggestion that there should be a 4-man LHW tournament, with him going against Jones, while Reyes and Santos determine the next title challenger.
UFC president Dana White has come out and said that Blachowicz vs. Jones is not a done deal, and that there is a possibility that Reyes could still get Jones next. Recently, White was at a meeting with Reyes’ manager Tiki Ghosn when he spoke about Reyes’ title aspirations with TMZ Sports.
“I think he (deserves a rematch). You’d be crazy not to think he deserves a rematch,” White said about Reyes.
Dana White admitted that at the moment, there is no plan in place to book Reyes vs. Jones.
“I don’t know. We’ll see how this thing plays out. Going into that fight, a lot of people didn’t know who Reyes was, they know who he is now.”
White was also asked if he thought Jon Jones had done enough to win the fight against Dominick Reyes, but the UFC president says his opinion on that doesn’t matter.
“Um, doesn’t matter. I’m not a judge. Doesn’t matter,” White said.
Reyes’ coach, Ghosn, was asked what do White’s comments mean in regards to his client Reyes getting the rematch, and the manager thinks it’s good news.
“Great news for Reyes,” Ghosn said. “I think there’s a very good chance of (Reyes vs. Jones).”
