UFC President Dana White just responded to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s comments accused the UFC of letting Conor McGregor handpick opponents.
Earlier this week, Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0 MMA) spoke with TMZ Sport, suggesting that the Ultimate Fighting Championship allows his Irish rival to handpick his opponents.
‘The Eagle’ says that the UFC set Conor McGregor up with an “easy fight” in Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, and now want to cash-in on a rematch between him and McGregor.
In a recent interview of his own with TMZ Sport UFC President Dana White responded to those accusations.
“Yea, first of all, Conor McGregor does not handpick his opponents,” White stated. “You know, Conor McGregor has fought anybody that we have asked him to fight and who has been available. I mean guys have pulled out on Conor 2 or 3 times, Conor literally went to the gym and said ‘Ok who am I fighting.’”
Dana White was asked what he thought about Khabib Nurmagomedov saying that Donald Cerrone was an easy fight for Conor McGregor.
“They hate each other. They hate each other. If you think that you’re going to do an interview with Khabib and he’s going to say great things about Conor McGregor… It is never going to happen. And if you interview Conor, he’s never going to say great things about Khabib. They hate each other.”
Dana White confirmed that he wants to do a rematch between Conor and Khabib, if ‘The Eagle’ beats Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 in April.
“Yeah. Khabib, if he wins. But I don’t know if Conor wants to wait for him. We will see what happens. Conor might not wait.”
McGregor and Nurmagomedov squared off at UFC 229 and it was the Russian who emerged victorious with a 4th-round submission over his Irish rival.
