UFC president Dana White has nothing, but praise for the co-main event at UFC 248 featuring Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang defended her title against Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a high pace fight at UFC 248. Both fighters demonstrated exceptional heart, skill and determination during the entire 25 minute bout. In the end, it was Zhang who got the nod from the judges, winning by a close split decision. MMA fans, media, and other fighters were left in awe after the performances by both women on social media, calling it the greatest women’s fight in history. UFC president Dana White also shared the enthusiasm, calling it “one of the best fights” he has ever seen, period.
White spoke with TSN’S Aaron Bronsteter, praising the co-main event at UFC 248. See what the UFC president had to say below:
“It’s one of the best fights I’ve ever seen, period. Right when the fight got over, I heard that they threw 800 punches, 400 each, in that ballpark. Both women were incredibly durable, kept coming forward, both of them wanted to win that belt so bad. It was one of the greatest fights ever,” White said.
“From what I saw, those guys were matching each other punch for punch. Every time someone would punch or kick, the other one would punch or kick. Both of them threw around 400 punches. It was an incredible fight.”
It is always a good sign to hear your boss speak so highly of your work. It’s very likely that the epic 5-round women’s strawweight title fight at UFC 248 featuring Zhang and Jedrzejczyk will be remembered for a long, long time. The bout is certainly a “Fight of the Year” candidate, just 3 months into 2020. You can watch the highlights from last weekend’s co-main event action at UFC 248 here.
