UFC featherweight contender Brian Ortega has issued an apology to Korean singer Jay Park, after slapping him in the crowd at UFC 248.
Jay Park attended the UFC 248 event with his friend, Chan Sung Jung, also known as the “The Korean Zombie”. When Jung took a bathroom break, Ortega allegedly approached and confronted Park, delivering an open palm slap to his face. The moment of the incident was caught on camera and Ortega could be seen being escorted out of the arena following the aletrication.
“The Korean Zombie” detailed the incident, giving his side of the story on his Instagram. Not long after Oretaga took to his social media to give his side of the story in a post that has since been deleted. It was also reported that a police report had been filed and they are now dealing with the incident.
Now, Ortega has issued an “official” apology to Jay Park on his Twitter account. In the same tweet he also called for a fights against Jung:
“I want to officially apologize to JPark for Saturday night, when Zombie is ready we can fight.”
Ortega had been previously scheduled to fight Jung at UFC Busan, but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to suffering a knee injury. He last competed in the Octagon, when he challenged Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight title at UFC 231 in December, 2018. Ortega lost the fight via 4th-round TKO stoppage.
Meanwhile, “The Korean Zombie” accepted a fight against Frankie Edgar, when Ortega was forced to pull out from their headliner at UFC Busan. Jung defeated Edgar via TKO in the very 1st-round. He is 6-2 in his last 8 Octagon appearances, with all of his wins (and losses) coming by the way of a finish.
