Former Bellator Lightweight champion Brent Primus isn’t a big fan of Michael Chandler and hopes their trilogy fight can happen so that he can knock him out.
Brent Primus and Michael Chandler first fought at Bellator NYC in June, 2017 in a fight that seen Primus beat the champion by TKO via leg injury in the 1st round. In a rematch between the two fighters a year and a half later at Bellator 212, it was Michael Chandler who got his hand raised by decision to win the belt back.
Since their last fight, Michael Chandler has lost the title to Patricio Freire, while Brent Primus has gone 2-0. Now, Primus is hoping the trilogy happens very soon.
“I really pray it does. I want that more than anything. After the fight in Hawaii, it killed me. I thought about it every day and I couldn’t sleep. Chandler was on my mind for months,” Primus told BJPENN.com. “I know I could’ve done better and know I could’ve beaten him. Just how things happen I want that fight to happen, I really do. And, I know if I fight Patricio and get the belt that fight will happen 100 percent. I want that fight because I know I can beat him for sure.”
Since their second fight came to a conclusion, their rivalry didn’t. The two fighters have trash-talked each other in interviews since then and it seems like it’s only a matter of time before a trilogy fight happens.
For Brent Primus, he says that he wants the trilogy fight due to his hatred towards Chandler. He says Chandler is not a good person outside of the cage and wants to expose him inside the cage.
“I think he is the biggest poor sport punk as in the world. I can’t stand him. Like when I beat him in New York and I remember Scott Coker walking in the cage saying what’s wrong? Chandler is like my leg is broken I can’t move it,” he said. “I heard him say that and then after that, he did the Ariel show he said my leg was fine it wasn’t broken I could have kept on fighting. Like man, this guy is a liar. We were at a photoshoot and he was cool to me then the next day he did an interview just talking some s*t. This guy is two-faced and a fake dude and I can’t wait to expose him.”
Although Primus wasn’t able to get the win in their last fight, he knows he has the skills to beat Michael Chandler. He believes that he has the better ground game and striking, enough knock out the former Bellator champion.
“I would change my game plan. When I fought him in Hawaii my game plan was to beat him on the feet until he went for a takedown and I’d submit him. One thing I did learn is I need to be able to change my game plan on a dime and I didn’t,” he explained. “I was so stubborn that I’d submit him and in our next fight I’m going to sprawl and brawl and knock him out. My standup is better and I’ll catch him.”
For now, Brent Primus is focused on the title and getting a shot against the current Bellator Lightweight champion Patricio Freire, and after that, he wants the trilogy with Michael Chandler.
“I want the belt and if I get the belt the Chandler will happen. I know I can beat Patricio as I am 100 percent confident,” he concluded.
