Bellator MMA analyst Josh Thomson says that he believes Cris Cyborg would “dismantle” Amanda Nunes if the two had a rematch.
Cris Cyborg put her UFC women’s featherweight title on the line against Amanda Nunes back at UFC 232. Unfortunately, the fight did not go her way as she was caught and swiftly finished by Amanda Nunes via punches in the very 1st-round.
The result of that fight stunned the world of MMA as Cris Cyborg had previously been considered to be the P4P greatest women’s MMA fighter of all time. That title has since been shifted to Amanda Nunes, who became the first woman in UFC history to hold 2-division titles simultaneously. Nunes is also the current UFC women’s bantamweight champion.
Josh Thomson is a former UFC fighter, who has now retired from professional MMA competition and works as an analyst for Bellator MMA. He believes that if a rematch was to take place between the two women, the outcome would be vastly different:
“I don’t understand how people can say after one loss that you are not the GOAT of women’s MMA. Cris Cyborg is hands down the best women’s MMA fighter I’ve ever seen.” Thomson said.
“If they fought again, I think Cris just dismantles Amanda.” he concluded.
Although, the Bellator MMA News account did not identify the source of these quotes, they are believed to be from a recent episode of the “Weighing In” podcast.
Since losing to Nunes, Cyborg fought Felicia Spencer at UFC 240, winning by a comfortable unanimous decision.
She was released by the UFC following her win over Spencer and signed with Bellator MMA shortly after. She last fought Julia Budd at Bellator 238, stopping her foe inside 4 rounds.
